Slow Hard drive.... unable to reach BIOS

Seems like we're playing "duelling Threads" Stan (like duelling banjos in Deliverance, lol)

Have we got Christina to run

Code:
smartctl

yet? I am going gaga after 10 pages, lol. If not, Id like to run her through one.

Do I run this while booted from usb? Are there posts we can delete?

I've same opinion as others, a backup should be made ASAP an the drive should be replaced.
Not very fond of HDD bargains but if the seller is willing to provide the S.M.A.R.T diagnostic of the Hard Drive that will help in making a decision.

If cannot afford replacing the drive (with an HDD or SSD) and this approach makes any sense to you, as last resort, another option is to:
  • make a data backup
  • take note of all the bad sectors reported by a full drive scan
  • re-partition the hard drive leaving the bad sectors (+ some hundreds or a thousand of additional sectors before and after the bad ones) out of any partition (that is as unused space). It could be cumbersome as bad blocks can be scattered around all the drive.

I've scratched this Post - you have already used Gsmartcontrol, lol
