So i am running kubuntu 18 on my laptops, everything works except my webcam, but im not worried about that!

I am curious if in theory if kubuntu 18 runs fine then ubuntu 18.04 lts should also run the same or better?

Kubuntu and Ubuntu are both official Canonical flavours of the same thing. Kubuntu uses a KDE Desktop and now that Ubuntu has dropped Unity it runs a Gnome Desktop.

It will probably not be any better, It will just be different.

Look at http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/whichbuntu and/or https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuFlavors

Psychocats has bits about changing the Desktop Environment under the heading "Playing Around". He used to warn, I don't know if he still does, that you could have more than one Desktop Environment e.g. Ubuntu and Kubuntu ---but it will lead to a terrible confusion of menu items.

You webcam? You could tell us the Make and Model of your laptops or the basic specs...

I am more concerned about the hardware compatibility between the 2 versions.

I am still fairly new to linux and want to get familiar with the different versions, but i want to make sure it will work before installation, and i believe i answered my own question as i forgot the usb is a live usb, i will try before i install and come back with my result

I have a lenovo ideapad 120s 64gb model, everything works except the webcam, i dont use it anyway, but i feel its odd when everything else, even secure boot & uefi works great

Hi @jbar2016

The following article may be of use to you?

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Webcam - it's August 2017, so not so dated.

I note you say you are fairly new to Linux, so if any of the "destructions" (what my wife and I call instructions, such as with our smart phone user guides, lol) are beyond your pay grade, sing out and I, or one of us, can walk you through them.

...i forgot the usb is a live usb, i will try before i install...

Eminently so :). Some newcomers to Linux take issue with the lengths we have to go to install Linux, but a Live DVD or Live USB is a perfect opportunity to test even before install, whether your WiFi, Printers, Bluetooth, scanners, video, graphics, and in your case Webcam ... work.

Cheers all ... it's Friday in Oz, so all will expect from me ...
