Messed up...

Yeah this is definitely a good place. Ill take a look at a more complete windows Windows shrink but it is at 345GB now I believe so not sure. That sounds like a good option though thanks . I dove head into a new world and thanks to you fellas I'm able to make some progress. I was planning on a new thread btw this one will be long enough and part of the goal is to help others in my position so they can search for a thread if needed.

This is a link to the drive. I looked at a few and this one seems to be quite well thought of.

Ive also considered making the SSD the dual boot platform, with the HDD as the reserve. If I do this, and there is an issue with the GRUB at some point where the computer becomes unbootable, would I be able to plug in the other HDD and continue as usual or is the GRUB stored on the computer itself somewhere?
Another option is disk caddies. I have been using them for many years, and I haven't developed any nasty rashes yet:p:p. That way you can keep the operating systems isolated on their own drives. Just a thought...

I have the same drive but its a 1TB. I haven't had any issues and it is really fast.

If you backup your grub before you make any changes to it you could always restore it to is't working condition by booting with a rescue CD and then mounting your boot dive and coping the files over. Grub is on the drive not the computer. No need to swap out drives. Only time you'd need to swap drive is if you break the OS that bad that you cannot repair it.

I think this basically solves it. Dog the main reason we've gone through this is I accidentally formatted over the recovery partition on my Hdd.The main goal for me is to have Linux as my main. However I also must have windows available if I go back to school. If I can reasonably rely on the hdd to be completely insulated and work if I plug it in that allows me to "go for it" on the ssd I just got. Thanks everyone for the responses I posted a thread in the getting started section!

I think all would say we welcome your thanks and that you are welcome.

Spotted your new thread a few hours ago but have been busy until now, so will shoot over there imminently.

Cheers
