Just thought I would share the news:
http://www.raspberrypi.org/raspberry-pi-2-on-sale/

A 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU (~6x performance)
1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM (2x memory)
Complete compatibility with Raspberry Pi 1
Broadcom BCM2836

Unfortunately, the changes I was looking forward to are not included. I really wanted a gigabyte Ethernet port and USB 3.0. But a quad core with 1 gb ram for $35? Awesome. Waiting for Arch-on-Arm to catch up. ;)

WANT!!! :)

The price sure is right. Just don't have much time to play right now. Bummer.

It will be interesting to mess with. I see Adafruit lists them for $45, and as being out of stock, Sparkfun's not showing them right now.

Yeah they sold out quick. I am going to wait until MicroCenter gets some in and Arch finally has a port. :)

It would be nice if they will put Pi inside something, add a monitor and keyboard with touchpad and call it netbook. And wireless card in it would be great too. And sale it for $100.

There are a few Open Hardware projects that do something like that.

There are but they are not that popular so maybe Raspberry Pi can use its trademark...
To be honest, the Chromebooks have taken any market a raspberry pi laptop would have. I have seen a raspberry pi tablet though, and it was awesome!

Chromebooks are not so technically interesting and cost at least twice more though

well no they are not interesting, and they do cost more. I just think that the idea of a raspberry pi computer would be more compelling if cheap laptops like Chromebooks didn't exist. Don't get me wrong, the advanced users will definitely consider this an interesting idea. I do. But for a laptop the raspberry pi is missing a very important piece..mpcie slot. For wifi. So much better than USB wifi though that would work also. :)

I think super cheap laptops, cheaper than chromebooks are just on the horizon

Yeah, I bought 2 of them for work, a special project involving RFID badges. They sure are cute little buggers:D! All that power in such a small package, WOW! I just may be enticed to switch from the basic stamp 2 series, NYUK NYUK.:rolleyes::p:p

Somehow, I don't know how, my comment was attached to the end of the post that I was replying to.:confused: It can be seen if you expand the posting. :p

Dude!
I think that someone has been reading your mind. The new Pi 3 Model B is out.:):) It uses a BCM2837 1.2GHZ 64 bit ARM quad core and has both wireless & Blue tooth built in. Same HDMI video and 4 pole stereo sound with 1GB of ram, 1 ethernetport and 4 USB ports (I think that they are all 2.0). No gigabit ehternet yet, but there's always hope;);)! And only $35! When you consider that the 386DX2-66 had a large heatsink on it, with a fan, I wonder how that 1.2GHZ quad core runs without one. Must be magic!:cool:

I thought that you'd like that Mitt!

Paul, believe or not, but I was just watching the review of it. This thing finally has integrated wireless and a quad-core processor! And just for $35.

Yeah, I was on the web buying components for a project this morning (NewarkinOne.com) and saw the advertisement on their page. YAHOO!:p:p

There are actually a lot of boards competing with the raspberry Pie now. Lemaker makes the "Guitar". This unit consists of a board with the processor on it, a single core as I recall, and either a single slot or 4 slot board to plug the processor board into. Hardkernel makes the "Odroid C1", Solidrun makes the "Hummingboard" in multiple flavors, MIPS makes the "Creator C120", to name just a few. I am currently investigating the Pine64. It comes in the Pine64 with 512Mb of ram, the Pine64+ with 1Gb of ram, and the Pine64+ with 2Gb of ram. As far as I can see, it's only shortfall is that it only has 2 USB ports. It uses the ARM Coretex-A53 CPU. That has four 1.2 Ghz cores. The GPU is the dual core MALI400, Which will generate 4K HDMI output!:cool: DUDE! It also has both 40 pin Raspberry Pi compatable GPIO & 34 pin "Euler" headers, Gigabit LAN on both of the 64+ versions, a RTC header, and 3.7V lithium battery support. It also supports Ubuntu, Android 5.1 (JELLYBEAN?), and OpenWRT operating systems.:):) Sounds like a fine package, except for the USB port shortfall. Did I mention the prices of $9.00, $19.00 & $29.00 for the 3 versions? There are many more that I have not mentioned here, and more that have not even started production yet. Check it out! Lotsa videos on Youtube!
Ciao for now,
Paul

It would seem that I mis-spoke on the Lemaker guitar:oops::oops:. My research shows that it is a quad core, not a single core. Oh, well, that's what they put erasers on pencils for:p:p.
