So you want to know the basics of Linux? Would you be fine with some links to helpful pages?

It all depends on your "flavor" of linux. I like debian. They all install differently because the package managers they use.

Kali is the perfect system for your needs and hardware. You made a good choice. What drivers do you need and why?

Ask as many questions as you want. That is what this website is for.

I am at the moment creating my own Linux PC gaming box and have at the moment so far successfully installed Steam and installed Skyrim (windows) and of course Steam for Linux.
I have also managed to install EA's Origins but at the moment of typing this haven't yet download nor run any EA games yet. I intend to install ME3 at the least.

What you will need is Wine 16 (ver 17 being the latest beta)
and Winetricks.
You might also want to take a look at PlayOnLinux
(sorry no links, I'm new to this forum and not allowed to post with links)

To play Windows games on Linux, try installing WINE (http://www.linux.org/threads/installing-and-configuring-windows-emulator-wine.4368/). Be aware though that WINE will not run all Windows programs correctly or without errors. Some programs run very well while some have minor issues and others may have severe issues.

There are plenty of games for Linux natively. You may want to look into Steam for Linux (http://steamcommunity.com/linux) which is a game suite.

Steam now has a *Linux NATIVE* client. When you go to its website it detects that you have linux and automatically gives you the linux client to download.

You can however choose to install the Windows / Mac client instead. Or do both. (Linux _ Windows)

As mentioned above, you'll need to install Wine to install / run SteamWindows but even so, NOT everything will run or run properly.

Of course the native client will only install native Linux games, so those will work 100%
But for window games, there's alot of voodoo involved.

Did you try using Wintricks to install Steam for Windows? Winetricks App would be in the same app folder as Wine's and once you launch it, there is a tick box that says "install Steam" it'l get steam for windows, set cfgs, look for missing required files and such and then installs it.

If you don't have winetricks look up your software updater / installer for it.
