It's not what I thought it might be then, it might be worth checking the dmesg output through the tty once it happens again.

In the Settings Manager I turned off "lock the computer when the screensaver starts" and turned off "lock the computer when put to sleep". Sliding the button to the off button with the mouse worked.

I never did have to read through the Xorg log file or change any of the strings in it. :)
