This will be a short one...I Promise

Alas, I did move this to off-topic (where everyone will still see it). It's not really a support question or even all that general. It's all good, I'm just letting you know the reasons for the move. The forum is so small that the regulars see all the threads anyhow.

But, and I'm biased, I'm inclined to agree. We've got a solid crew of regulars here. They may sometimes have to work at finding a solution, but they'll tend to put the hours in to help others. That's what makes it a good site - I think. Well, one of the things that makes it a great site.

This isn't the best site on the net for nothing...friendly...helpful and no A-holes.

What they all said ^^^^^^^....up there

On the subject of this being a 'short one'.....I have known the people here turn a one word post into a multi page discussion......

Actually, I am going one step further and moving it to Member Introductions, where Larry can meet a few more of The Gang.

LOL I almost did the same, but I didn't think they were really introducing themselves. I almost asked if they'd rather it be moved there.

We have landed and you can unbuckle your seatbelts and begin to gather your luggage.

Thank you for flying Air Wizard and we hope to see you again soon.

All good, David. Larry can say as much or as little as he likes, we're all ears.

Welcome to the forums,
some will say we are trying, others that we are very trying, but I think we try our best,

Where from in the UK?
My fiancee is from Wirral, trying to get here, but waiting on a new passport (Long story) She has dual citizenship but after covid and government offices being closed and all, it's been a real cluster ****.
She mentioned today (thank goodness for Skype) you're on rationing? Only allowed 6 eggs @ person per week and the like? $1,500 monthly heating bills? I thought America was messed up.

That's fine by me. I'm not much of a whiner.
I'd buy ya all a beer, if I could afford it, Right now I can't afford to pay attention, Looking at 2 hospital bills for $420,00 & $350,00. Didn't have insurance when kidneys crapped out. Heck..Never seen a Doctor until I was 65, didn't need to, or so I thought.

Another question, Probably be a no brainer for you all., But when I format my Thumb drives why do they only show 12GB of 16GB free? just never could figure that one out. Does anyone elsy agree that Sandisk drives suck? I've had so many take a

Moving it is alright with me, I'll learn my way around. I'm not much of a whiner, but been called a weiner at times.
I'd buy everyone a beer or 2 if I could afford it. Looking at a tad over $700,000.00 in medical bills from my kidneys crapping out. Never had insurance, heck...never seen a doctor until then. Thought I was healthy as a horse, I thought wrong.
Enough of that, I have another simple question for everyone... Here goes:
When formatting a 32 GB thumb drive , why does it just show as 16.1 GB Free?
What's up with the other 15.9 GB?
Anyone else agree that SanDisk thumbs are terrible? I've had a few that only lasted a week.
Have better luck with Walmart generics.
Also, I did something from the Larry Plan, I lost the first post on this reply and started over. Please 86 the unfinished post, Thanks
Now I gotta see what Trump said.

Didn't have insurance when kidneys crapped out.

Then, well, those bills aren't all that bad! LOL Those bills are downright small if you live in the US.

Never seen a Doctor until I was 65, didn't need to, or so I thought.

As I'm fond of saying... "Lessons were learned."

This is not a competition, but I was a passenger in a pretty spectacular automobile wreck. My bills topped 7 figures by the time I was mostly done.

I still haven't settled with the insurance company, mostly 'cause I'm pretty pleased that they keep paying any bill I send 'em. I'm in no rush to settle. I've got about three more years before I need to start the proceedings.

Which leads me to...

Again, it's not a competition. What it is, is a statement about the value of *good* insurance.

What we can't do, unless we're really careful, is talk about single-payer. Politics is off-limits - but *medicine* shouldn't really be all that political. From a *medical* viewpoint, I feel everyone should get treatment at least kinda similar to what I got.

Gotta be careful as politics is strictly off limits.

Now, onto the meat of what I was going to say. Depending on where you went to the hospital, they may have scaled billing, where your bill is based on what you earn.

Another one, pioneered by a hospital not too far from me, is that the hospital lets you work off your bill. I know that sounds odd, but they have you scrubbing floors and mowing lawns. You're not actually conducting surgery to pay off your bill.

Entirely unrelated...

I recently had a cyst in my calf muscle. It was a bit aggravated so I sanitized an x-acto knife and cut it out. I then kept it clean and dressed for a few days and it was fine. I'm a long ways from a hospital and it was just the easiest path. The missus was kinda concerned but it's not the first time I've done so.

Hmm... Yeah, this is a wine-fueled novella. Ah well...

I thought America was messed up.

Be it true, be it funny, be it a sad state of reality...

It is now that I don my moderator hat and point out that politics (and religion, and sexuality) are all off-topic here and discussion of any of those topics is not okay.

Don't worry. I won't jump on a ban button or anything silly like that. You're rapidly approaching the limit what that one - and the Trump one - so this is just a friendly reminder from your neighborhood mod.

And, yes, it can be REALLY hard to discuss things without politics, religion, or sexuality. That's fine. There are other sites where you're free to discuss those things until the cows come home.

But, they're off-topic here and that's a GOOD thing. It makes this site so much better. Trust me... So, so so soooooooooo much better.

I would be okay with the $700k + if it were for like a massage parlor or a casino, but this wasn't fun. And all while I was in hospital it was a renal diet, YUM.
Besides a hospital bill I've got 6 specialists wanting money.
So I'm taking the lamers way out. Going bankrupt. I have one payment of $375.00 left, will pay that next week and it takes 90 days to go through the system.
Luckily now I have insurance which covers almost everything. Meds are another thing.

And all while I was in hospital it was a renal diet, YUM.

I kid you not.

Seriously, this is not a joke.

I had *real* lobster rolls on the menu. They weren't fake lobster, they were real lobster Not tiny pieces, but legit chunks, as though it was claw meat. And not just little claws, but real lobster.

The hospital is Maine General, in Augusta, Maine.

If you're gonna go to the hospital, I highly recommend Maine General!

I'm not even kidding. Not only was I eating real lobster, I was feeding it to any guest that looked even a little hungry.

They also have seasonal food, from 'filddleheads' to native wild Maine blueberries, depending on the season.

Again, I ain't even kidding... I had real lobster rolls on the menu. I ate lobster rolls almost once a day, though I could have had it twice a day. Hell, I could have ordered it for breakfast and they'd have delivered it.

You can do that sort of thing for yourself Larry, if you are the author of the Post.

News to me, did some shopping yesterday, yes we have a shortage of eggs [and other fowl products] this is due to a bad attack of bird flue that has decimated many of our poultry farms, and as a result prices are high, but I managed to pick up a box of 15 eggs, energy prices are outrageous across the whole of Europe so no use moaning about it,
Where from in the UK?
Originally I am a Kentish man, married to a Lancashire Lass for 49 yrs, and now living in East Anglia, Before my final retirement I had a part-time job working for GME [Vauxhall/Opal] delivering all types of vehicles around the UK and often had to go to the Ellesmere Port factory [before that many years ago I used to buy bricks from the brickworks on the Wirral.]

I live in a small town, rural. Hospitals here sell out every 6 months or so. About chucked my chow when I only saw a big plate of green beans. I mentioned to the doctor that put me on the renal diet that they would be feeding me through a tube if they didn't change it. They changed it.
Still I feel that I got better care than my brother in law got from the V.A., they'd do absolute minimum.
My doctors are good , nurses cute. Hospital is not.

I've had great results with the VA. I was there last week. They can be a little slow, but they've never left me wanting.

That said, I did not use the VA after the wreck. I didn't really have much say in it. Well, I probably could have said something, but let's just say I wasn't in a talking kinda mood. They flew me to Maine General.

The VA does not have lobster on the menu.

The thing here with the VA is it's in Tampa, bro-in-law is a train wreck. 87 years old been an alcoholic since he was weened off the milk. He's addicted to gambling , and knows more than his doctors, so they treat him like he treats them.
He'll be doing a phone visit and tell them he's doing exactly as they tell him. Walks 10 miles each morning (only walking he does is to the liquor cabinet)
They know. But his wife, my sister is an enabler, lets him do it.
Heck when they drive to the VA he has his flask right in the jockey box. I'm willing to bet that if he gets pulled over, she will slam it down, saying it's hers.
One of the neighbors told him when he does get pulled over, he can play the old man card and get off.
Brother in law is dumber than a box of hair and believes anything the neighbor says.
He has to get headaches from being that stupid.
