Wanted to hack my PSVita, most tutorials recommended using QCMA to download firmware and such. Tried to download it using GDebi package installer.
Got Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libvitamtp5 (>=2.5.5)

Did it manually through the terminal thinking maybe GDebi wasn't equipped to do it. Terminal says my key is expired. I can't manage to find the key for 20.04 on my own. I am very new to Linux.

Well, it hasn't been maintained since 2014, which is probably why - unless I'm missing something.

That is true, although people have still been modding the PSVita using this tool for a while, and you can see people on YouTube continuing to use this tool quite recently so I believe it still works.
I think the lack of updates is due to the age of the Vita and Sony's lack of desire to update the vita against piracy.

You can try to find a .deb version (perhaps at pkgs.org) and then try to install it with apt in the terminal or GDebi in the GUI. However... You may run into dependency hell - meaning you keep getting unresolved dependencies that you chase for hours on end.

I don't think you'll find any expertise with that application here - but stick around to see if someone can help.

My suggestion would be to find someone who's making current videos and using this software so that you can ask them how they managed to get it installed. That may be your briefest and easiest way to accomplish this goal.

Again, someone here may know but I've yet to see anyone mention it and I've been here for a long time.

By the way, I'll move this to the gaming sub-section. That's the *most appropriate* sub-forum.

They do have a debian version on their website. I will try that and tell you how it works.

You were right. they all get the same dependency error in the first post. all but qmca_0.4.2_armhf.deb
This one presents

...g architecture 'armhf --Run dpkg-- add-architeture to add it and update afterwards

I don't know if this gets me further or not, but I thought it was worth pointing out because it was the only one with a different outcome.

Might have found the correct release key?

it is in the manual download, but for some reason doing the instructions listed on the website doesn't cause it to work. I am new to Linux, so I don't know why this would be.

These are the instructions on the site

For xUbuntu 20.04 run the following:

Keep in mind that the owner of the key may distribute updates, packages and repositories that your system will trust (more information).

echo 'deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/codestation/xUbuntu_20.04/ /' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/home:codestation.list

curl -fsSL https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:codestation/xUbuntu_20.04/Release.key | gpg --dearmor | sudo tee /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/home_codestation.gpg > /dev/null

sudo apt update

sudo apt install qcma

My outcome was posted at the start. The cite for the key is there but their might be a formatting or spelling issue. I will keep working on it.

nvm

Yeah, I saw the repositories when I looked but I figured they'd be using the same files and so you'd get the same error.

I'd ask nicely at a site where someone already does this or check to find the social media/web pages associated with the video makers and seeing if they'll help you get this squared away.

I will look around

Plus, you never know. We have members in all time zones, so maybe one of 'em will pop up with the solution.

if i had more than one PS Vita I would gladly have tried it out but I'm not gonna screw up the only Vita I have since I'm still fond of it.
