Support technically ended yesterday.

It *will* be archived and *no* further updates will be made available.

If you haven't upgraded to supported release, 21.10 for now, then you will find yourself on a dead-path, meaning updating to a new version will be problematic.

Delay upgrading at your peril. You have been warned.

Carry on...

I didn't try the odd number version for the past few years.
Odd number versions, 17.04, 19.04, 21.04 are short-term and for beta testers. It will be supported for 9 months.

The even number versions, 18.04, 20.4, are supported for 5 years, some of them are ten years. These are LTS (long-term support versions).

Yes, you'll need ESM for the longer term support. The official flavors don't offer that. You get three years and you like it. The interim releases are supported for 9 months, both for official flavors and Ubuntu itself.

ESM is free for up to three personal computers, for the uninitiated.

Also, 22.04 is right around the corner. It's still in alpha phase, but will go beta soon enough and then get released presumably on-schedule. As near as I can tell from the inside, it's going smoothly enough.

With my "Ubuntu News" hat on, I need a reviewer to approve the post, meaning the fridge/planet/news/.. post gets delayed (often up to a a day as occurred here). I got alerted to EOL pretty quickly (ping when ML post hits my inbox as well as ping on IRC from Brian (bdmurray) almost the same time) but procedures/policies...

Ubuntu 21.04 (along with all flavors) is End-of-Life

- https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades (this won't be necessary until the movement of repositories occurs; ie. release-upgrade now or it'll be more complex)

One shame about 21.04; was there were still fixes sitting in -proposed that never made it to full release; as they never completed the 7 day period before hitting -updates... oh well, users get the fixes when they upgraded to 21.10

I was using Ubuntu 21.10 for a bit just because it was kind of a Snapd version so I could see what Snapd was about.

I had no complaints it ran well but me being a new Linux user only since October of 2021 probably wouldn't have noticed any difference.

Now that I didn't know. Heck, I don't even know where to find that information!
