Linux mint installation problem

gona try and install it because at this point i would take any os installing

sorry but that is the most up to date i know

Do you just get a blackscreen or a blackscreen with a blinking cursor?

OK it worked but dont get over excited, that is a release candidate, so there will be no support for it, you will need to do a full installation of the new MX21-ahs when it is released this may be a month or so so keep a check on it

why did it work, partly luck but basically as i said before AHS stands for advanced Hardware support so it has the very latest stable Kernel and virtually all the latest non-free [proprietary drivers]

It worked because MX21-AHS has the correct driver for you graphics card already installed. But congratulations on sticking with it. Enjoy! Brickwizard does it again :)

i will keep an eye out for when the more stable version comes out. is there any other os's that use ahs? just so i can see if there are any options out there for the future. but thanks a lot for fixing my problem!

AHS is an Mx thing, I know of nothing "out of the box" as up to date as the latest MX, it has helped several people with the most recent machines to get started,
you could if you wished make any distro working but it will be hard work for the novice as you would have to find and install all the latest driver and update to the newest stable kernel.

For some reason it's not loading the correct amd Graphics driver. It's loading ati:vesa and it should be AMDgpu.
That is a kernel function. But it may be worth a try to install the driver from AMD or through the PPA found here.
An old Linux Guru that used to teach me things told me a long time ago that if the wrong driver is loading it will cause the device not to work. I think modules are in the output of lsmod.

it wouldnt be possible that i dont have secureboot enabled by accident right, because i couldnt find it in my mobo bios when i looked
If your mobo is UEFI than yes you would want to disable secure boot in the BIOS and than proceed to install Linux.

Try installing the following package.
Code:
sudo apt xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu

ive encountered another problem and its with game running speed, my games are running at the speed of a powerpoint slide show on relativley easy games to run, would you know why? i think its something to do with drivers
