how slim line can u make Linux?

The browser would become a nightmare to use with 50 tabs open regardless of RAM. And in any case there is no use for it.

It's actually pretty easy to adjust to. I do separate tasks in each browser.

And, yes there is... They're mostly tabs with important information - or information I want to gather. I use a 'week' schedule. If I haven't used the tab in about a week, I close it. For every site I own, I have at least a few tabs open.

Just because you can't understand it doesn't mean there's no use for it. That's just silly talk.

Hmm... Actually, this browser only has 47 tabs open. All of 'em are of value to me.

It's quite funny how you have different levels of things. My mate reacted like I'd just hacked a bank when I installed inxi and opened up a terminal window to check what his wifi card was at the weekend. He couldn't believe it when I told him of people who used the terminal through preference!

Yet here, the thin veneer of my IT expert persona would be seen through immediately. Note how I only opened a terminal to use inxi, not to install it.

I'd hate to see how many tabs open and virtual machines running you had prior to retirement!

I'd have had fewer, but more focused tabs. Computers were less powerful.

Also, if you think that's bad, you should see Thunderbird. While it is fewer in number, it eats up a bit of time. I've got 12 email addresses (again, all for different purposes) open. I get a ton of email every day.

Oh, and I misspoke earlier. I only have tabs open for sites that I own that are still developed. That reduces the number of open tabs. I only have five sites (not counting sub-domains) that I am constantly tweaking/monitoring/adding content.

I typically have 20 to 30 applications open at the same time
That's crazy lol I think we're being taken for a ride lol

Starting from left to right.

Chrome
Thunderbird
Chromium
VBox
VBox Impish Lubuntu
VBox OpenSUSE Tumbleweed (trying to fix the display issues)
File Manager
FeatherPad
Terminal
File Manager (different location)
Terminal
Terminal
Vivaldi
Terminal
File Manager
VNC
VNC - LMDE computer
VNC - Lubuntu computer
Filezilla
PSensor
Quassel
Shutter

There's also 2 private browser instances and FeatherPad has about 20 text files open.

So, however many those are.

That's a pretty normal workload. I open all that stuff up as I need it and then just leave it open (if I'll likely need it again). I don't reboot often. My current uptime is a bit over 9 days.

Y'all don't do similar? I often have more.

Well, you can't count 3 VMs running on VBox as 3 apps, is one app doing one thing; run virtual machines. Likewise, 3 windows of the file manager counts as 1 app too, is the file manager. Are you using three different terminals or is it 3 windows from the same app? VNC running 3 instances of itself is the same thing as VBox, 1 app doing what it does. I count there 13 apps running, some have more than one instance running at the same time, and the system sees 1 app not 3 or 6, even if you have 6 instances of the same app open.

I just launched kwrite and open 8 instances/windows, yet
Code:
ps aux | grep kwrite
list 1 app/process, not 8, as shown in the img above.

Of course I can. More so, so doesn't the system count them independently. Do you really want to argue with htop?

It borders on madness for me. I would lose track of what I had open. I think I would maybe even forget who I was!

*shrugs* I'm used to it. I close stuff if I don't use it, but I use all those things. The VMs will swap in and out, and the terminals will all be different things - though two are generally dedicated to keeping SSH sessions open.

Sure, you can. We all can.
