Hello everybody.
Newbie here, I just started using Linux about a month ago and since yesterday, with the help of some amazing people here, I sorted my new computer with a slick Linux Ubuntu os.
Not very advanced in computer skills, I've learned computers with a windows 2.8 and my first computer was a 386 with a 60 or 80 mb hdd and about 4 mb ram memory if I remember good and that was very an amazing step since I was able to run windows 3.0 with the click right function of the mouse. The guy who taught me the first things about computers told me that Linux is for hackers, very difficult to use, the government hates those people and other enough reasons to make me never really looked into Linux after. Since then many things have changed (starting with developing some sort of f..k the government mentality, ha ha). I never went too much into computers but it was something that was always interested in and I would like to learn programming maybe so if any of you good people have and directions to point me at, I will be grateful.
I am born in Romania but I've lived most of my adult life outside, mostly in the middle east (turkey and egypt), working as a scuba diving instructor. Currently living in Denmark doing something completely unrelated with diving.
Peace to all and I am looking forward to meet a new tribe

Hello @thedude and welcome to the Linux.org community! If you want to learn to program have a look at python, it's one of the easier languages to learn. I'm not a programmer but I was working on learning python but put it on hold for now. Why did you decide to move around outside of Romania, I've heard it's a beautiful place to live and even have a friend who lives there. Do you have any other goals when it comes to Linux?

Hello @f33dm3bits and many thanks again with your help earlier. I'll have a look at python and the reason is adaptation to the environment that we are living in these days. Leaving abroad for the past 20 plus years, being exposed to various cultures and working with many nationalities, all that shaped me into having a critical eye in regards to the direction of the future. Learning coding / programming i see it as a new skill to learn (always glad for that) and looking trough the prism of the this plandemic that is going on for almost a year now, I am thinking that it might be useful one day to diversify the income.
Romania is awesome and without being biased I can say that the people are very kind, the country and the landscape it is awesome, prices still relatively cheap. It is a country with tons of opportunities but the scamdemic have kind of put everybody on hold. I still have a nice piece of land there, with a bit of diversity (water spring, a small forest and some hills) and I still plan to keep make something out of that one day

Hey @thedude
Welcome to the community.

I'm one of the few professional programmers who regularly lurks here!
I'm a C++ programmer by trade, but I have experience with numerous other programming and scripting languages, old and new(ish). Too many to list! Ha ha!

I haven't had much time to be on the site recently, but I usually jump in and help out with the programming/scripting related threads. So once you start learning, if you have any problems/questions, post a thread and someone here will usually chime in with some help/advice if I don't get there first!!

Romania is still on my list of countries I want to visit :)

G'day @thedude and welcome to linux.org from DownUnder :)

My 386 had a 40 MB HDD and I used to have to insert and remove about 25 1.44 MB microdisks (wrongly called floppies) to back it up.

That's in Command Line - it's where Jas lurks :)

Enjoy your Linux and Avagudweegend

Hah! That may be just the reason I was interested in Linux and started using it!
Welcome to the awesome Linux.org forums!
