The wonderful Jim Browning mentioned in the article does some truly incredible videos on this subject, where he reverses Teamviewer connections and gets access to CCTV and so on.

His youtube channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBNG0osIBAprVcZZ3ic84vw

The BBC Panorama documentary 'Spying On The Scammers' largely details his work on a particular call centre. Very much worth a watch and I think it's on DM for those outside the UK.

He's a brilliant man.

I like Kitboga (although I can't watch hours of it) but a lot of the funny videos are a bit of a struggle for me tbh. Kudos to the guys for doing it though, as well as others who don't record or put online.

I actually look forward to getting these phone calls.

So far, I have received zero of them - but I'm hopeful. I even answer unknown numbers when they call me. So far, none of them are tech support scams.

I plan on making sure the scammer knows I'm old, so I'll act like I have no idea what these newfangled computers do, this stupid box my daughter made me buy. I wanna see how long I can make them waste their time.

But, not one has called me - ever. I even have a landline.

Man you must be old! On a serious note, your biggest struggle would be to quickly get a convincing Windows VM setup (that didn't look like a VM and looked like a machine being used and not a fresh install). With a convincing machine for them to connect to you'd be looking at hours easily.

LOL We get them all the time! "Theres a problem with your icloud account" We dont have one. "Theres a problem with your amazon account" Dont use them. "Theres a problem with your credit card" We dont have one.....

LOL All we have is a landline and it used to be a party line!
For you youngins!
party line

Ha ha - I hadn't heard of party lines! I was born in the 80s so I grew up with a landline, but have never had a personal one since I moved out from my parents.

It's bizarre to me (as an adult I always had a mobile) how people organised to meet prior to landlines. Other than going to their house or writing a letter, you'd basically rely on chance meetings (or meetings) to organise future meetings. I suppose people just went to the pub and social circles were somewhat different.

Where I live, I barely get cell service. If you drive about five miles NW of me, you won't get a cell signal for about an hour's worth of drive time.

Look up Rangeley, Maine. I'm about 20 miles away from that.

Yeah it looks quite remote, especially from a European pov. Is the landline/internet still OK? The telephone/fibre providers must baulk at installation costs assuming they have to pay them. BT often have to pay thousands to connect remote/new UK houses with a new fibre line. And you seem to be in an area the size of Scotland filled with trees and highways.

I, and my neighbors, have DSL because I paid for the magic box (switching equipment) and new lines. The telco paid for the installation, I paid for the physical goods. That was the only way to get anything better than dial-up or satellite.

One neighbor chipped in $1k and I paid about $30k for the entire thing.

It was worth every penny.

I don't even live in a registered municipality. There are zero local services. There aren't even any local police. If you want your road maintained, you and your neighbors maintain it or pay to have it maintained. If you want it plowed out, you buy a plow truck. There's no local fire department, no post office, no town office, no anything. It's an "unincorporated township".

The good news is that I own a giant chunk of land. I bought it when I sold my business and retired. I've been here ever since.
