I am newbie & have VirtualBox Virtual machines & i tried fedora & MintOS as VM's yet the scrolling up and down is not easy as need to be rather violent with my trackpad to get it to scroll and when it does scroll it always jumps a lot unlike when i use my Host machine and im wondering if this is normal as i have zero experiance of Linux or any Virtual Machine of any type.
My Host is x86 64 the same as the VM's OSystems and i ticked 3D and gone through all settings i could find for smooth scroll etc yet this doesnt seem to of made any difference.

If theres anyone with good experiance of working with different Virtual machines including VirtualBox then i would be most appreciated if you could advise me further? Thanks

The only thing I can think of immediately is installing the VirtualBox guest additions.

Host OS? Windows? Mac? Linux? Also, VBox has a dedicated forum where you can ask for help too https://forums.virtualbox.org/

Entirely unrelated, it took me a minute but I just realized why the OP's profile pic looks familiar. A buddy uses that same pic as their wallpaper.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Ok. How much RAM did you assign to the guest's GPU? Default is 64, but you could make it up to 256.
3CPU
Base memory = 3,500MB
Video Memory = 145MB
3D acceleration is on
VDI = 35GB
Disc Image = x86_64.iso
I am not sure which one of these are RAM?

Are these host's or guest's specs? I was asking for the guest's RAM you assigned to the GPU, by default is 64mb, but you can change it up to 256mb, which improves a bit of the performance.

i have the pointing device in system settings as "USB Tablet" could this be the issue do you think?
Chipset = PIIX3

Unfortunately, virtualization doesn't work the same for everyone, so I suggest you to experiment disabling/enabling settings and see if it changes anything, take notes of the changes you make so you can revert them in case they are/were fine.

I also noticed that when i uploaded the Guest Additions iso it seemed to stay there after ever session unlike when i inserted the guest OS .iso which removed its self after the first re-boot, is this normal and could this be causing an issue do you think?
Not sure if one is suppost to mamnually remove said .iso GAdditions or not, i check online many places even VB but i cant see any answer to such a thing. Thanks

Sorry, but I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say. How did you install guest additions? Usually, you do that from the virtual machine - while it's running - menu devices > insert guest additions CD image... then you just follow the on screen instructions. Can you post a screenshot of the virtual machine settings here? Also, open the terminal and copy/paste or type this
Code:
lsmod | grep vboxguest
Hit Enter and copy/paste the output in your reply. This is to verify that the kernel module is loaded, you should get something like this
Code:
vboxguest             303104  2 vboxsf
No output means that the VirtualBox kernel module is not loaded.

Unfortunatly im not on the Linux machine currently so no can do screenshots, but i type into the Linux VBox VM CLI as you said and got a result = 348180 5
not sure what this means but VBox VM's seem to work good other than the juddery scroll thingy happening, i swipe down on trackpad and theres a jump every scroll, i also tried different OS Fedora and same thing, i also tried VBox on macbook and same issue there too.
Do you use VBox?
Do you have perfect trackpad scroll on the guest as you do your host machine?

If you're not in the Linux machine, where did run that command in then? You're supposed to run that command in the host OS VBox is installed in, not in the guest, did you do that?. As for the screenshots, launch VBox - not the virtual machine - select the virtual machine and click in settings - the gear icon - in VBox main window, you should get something like this

VirtualBox_New_VM_System_Settings.PNG

Take some screenshots for general, system and display settings, then post them here.

Yes, I do. Honestly though, I only run a Windows 7 VM and not sure about trackpad scroll functioning. For Linux guests I prefer QEMU https://www.qemu.org/ which in my opinion is a lot better than VBox for running Linux. And again, you should consider asking in VBox forum https://forums.virtualbox.org/ as they are the people behind this software, and you should expect them to have far more knowledge on the inner workings of their software than any of us here.
