I downloaded Debian on my PC. I was doing this the first time I didnt know what I was doing. Upon Deian installing procces it asked me to put in password. I typed the password but then I forgot.

When I turn my PC on, it says that I need to type in the password to even start Debian. But since I dont know the password I am stuck.

Can somene help me please. How can I fully reset the computer.

The easiest would be to just reinstall it. Do it the same way you did it last time, but this time remember your password. It's a quick task.

Are you taking about your normal user password? If you still remember the root password you can use that to login in a virtual console to reset your user password from there.

G'day @Mario123 and welcome to linux.org :) (I appreciate you have been with us a few weeks).

The operative question here, I think, is

How long have you had Debian on the computer and have you built up a substantial amount of personal data you want to keep, and settings you want to maintain?

I can take a look at your other postings, but it will help if you let us know here.

Then our helpers above can better determine the best course of action for you.

My Debian does not contain any files that would be imortant to me.

You gave a blank response to my question?

I have to leave for my evening in Australia but will check back in tomorrow :)

Given what you have said, reinstall would be your best option, IMO. Be sure to memorise or write down or store somewhere, both your user password and Root password, if different and both used.

I downloaded Debian 3 weeks ago, I used it for a day before forgeting the password. I don't have a lot of data or setting on it that would be important to me are i am fine with deleting them.

Do you need anything else?

Sorry if you dont understand my English its because English is not my mother tongue

How do I reinstall it???

How do I reinstall it???
Do you have access to another machine where you can download an iso and create a bootable usb? If so what OS are you running on that machine?

I do have acces to the other machije. I am running Windows 10 on my other machine.

On your Windows machine download the preferred Debian iso, then install rufus. Insert usb drive in your system, open rufus, select debian iso, and then write iso to usb. It is pretty self explanatory once you see the interface.

Will this work if a already have Debian on my PC but i forgor Root password.

If forgot one part, after rufus finishes creating your bootable usb drive, you take out the drive and place it in the machine you want to reinstall Debian on. Select to boot from usb drive, and the installer will start and overwrite your current installation where you forgot your password.

DONT REINSTALL
don't know if I'm suppose to say it, But you can make a bootable USB, than go to /etc/passwd
you should look on the internet what encryption your distro has. than generate a password like: toor

finally you copy the hash, place it into the /etc/passwd file where your username is located.

annnd tada. you have your machine back!!

greetings

If there's noting important on your install then just Nuke and Pave Over with a clean install and WRITE DOWN your new password this time. I did that on a little Netbook that I had installed Q4OS on, just Nuked it and put Sparky on it with a new password and Bob's Your Uncle.
