    Books are Worthless Nowadays.

The library was the first place that told me they didn't want them and to just toss them in a dumpster. That's what I'm saying books are worthless. I did take a couple hundred automotive and home repair and home construction books to a local thrift store. The thrift store attendant said what...

    Books are Worthless Nowadays.

@dcbrown73 you are spot on the nail head. Books in hand are far better than resourcing them online when needed while you are working. Older technical books are more informative imo but yeah seem to get dated quickly nowadays. Digital platform / format is way better for novels and such at my...

The unthinkable has happened: Nvidia has finally embraced open-source GPU drivers

Nouveau open source graphics driver works good for most non graphics intensive stuff. Try to run Linux "Flight Gear Flight Simulator" using Nouveau open source graphics driver it really sucks.

The unthinkable has happened: Nvidia has finally embraced open-source GPU drivers

Windows is where all of my Nvidia graphics cards are still fully supported and I understand why. Using Puppy Linux makes a lot of stuff in Linux a lot more useful sometimes for awhile longer anyway. I like the fact that kernel updates sometimes still support some of the needed proprietary...

Agreed progress seems to change a lot of things some for the better and some not always for the better.

    Books are Worthless Nowadays.

Yep books are cool spent a lot of time reading as a child. I've gotten spoiled with the audio books in my old age. I hear knee replacement are a lot more difficult healing from than hip replacement. Most folks I know who have had either procedure done have had excellent results afterwards...

    Books are Worthless Nowadays.

Any surgery sucks imo. I had my right hip replaced back in 2015 and the PT I had wasn't painful although at first was tiring. Avascular Necrosis (AVN) where the femoral head and stem die from the lack of blood flow. The left hip is bone on bone due to old age and arthritis. It is painful most...

    Books are Worthless Nowadays.

Someone else can put them on Ebay. I'm unwilling to put forth the effort to do so it's easier to toss them. I know it's terrible to do that but I just don't care anymore. I've tossed all kinds of ham radio electronics and test equipment that no one wanted it's just easier. It's sad when you...

    Books are Worthless Nowadays.

Hello forums, The Wife and I are in our 70s and we've been going through stuff around our house and this weekend it was all of the bookshelves throughout the house. All kinds of books I mean everything just about. Figured we would donate them somewhere but books are worthless and no body...

I finally did it. Windows in the trash!

To many places and things here lately seem to be or have already become Windows only accessible.

I finally did it. Windows in the trash!

I'll use Windows if I have to as it does allow access to some websites that Linux won't let me log in to. I have found that Google Chrome on Linux will allow me to access some websites that I use to only be able to login to using Windows.

I finally did it. Windows in the trash!

I agree and please don't take me the wrong way. I've seen to many businesses just to laxed on their computer security for client information. It is in their computers and their data base and should be protected and is not secure and to me that's scary. To many businesses we use are being...

I finally did it. Windows in the trash!

Don't kid yourself between the OSs and the browsers and search engines which all go to Google. Wherever and whoever you visit. Whether you use Windows or not. When you visit your doctor or bank. No matter how secure and private you think you are your personal information is collected and sold...

The unthinkable has happened: Nvidia has finally embraced open-source GPU drivers

They don't support any of my Nvidia graphics cards so as far as I'm concerned Nvidia still sucks and always will. I need the 340-108 proprietary Nvidia driver. The newer Linux kernels no longer support for the Nvidia 340-108 driver.

I finally did it. Windows in the trash!

Yes although it requires changing a few settings through command prompt. The how to can be found on certain websites none of which will be a Microsoft website. You also have to download updates from the Microsoft catalog and install them manually...

I finally did it. Windows in the trash!

Scratches Head. Please explain exactly what you mean by this statement. "welcome to that small percentage of global computer users who have FULL control over their hardware......" I have a Windows 10 desktop and have complete control over everything that happens on it before it happens...

    bitlocker

I don't think bitlocker is a stupid choice in this day and age for laptop and mobile devices as long as the bitlocker user has provided for themselves a backup replacement key / device.

    bitlocker

I've never used it although I've known a few who have and lost the usb key and was unable to get onto their laptop computer. I wound up changing the HDD with a new HDD and then reinstalled the Windows OS which is what they wanted to do.
