    Hi forum

As linux users we are told many times that we do not need virus protection

I use clam for virus detection and I have currently 4 threats in Quarantine

    They are PUA.JS.Xored (3of) PUA.Script.packed.1 (1of)

Can anyone tell me what they are and if they are dangerous

    Thankyou Sellyoak

I'm sorry but I have no idea what that threat is but all I can say is that any computer OS nowadays will have to think of getting a protection because Mac is not starting to have more viruses and I;m sure Linux as well.

Hi thanks for your reply, I must admit that I find it strange
that nobody using linux has the same problem, it is written about on the web
but nobody seems to have definitive answers.

I would have thought somebody on a specialist forum like this would have some answers
which leaves me with 4 threats and I know not If they are benign or evil

    Thanks anyway Sellyoak

The only reason OS X and Linux-based operating systems are usually not threatened by viruses is because they command so little of the market that it isn't worth developing viruses for them.

That is a good point, however, that is only part of the reason. Unix and Unix like operating systems are, by design, very secure. Linux is an imitation of Unix. OS X has it's root directly in Unix. Booth are very secure, but no operating system is completely bullet proof against malware.

OS X got hit very hard by a virus not too long ago. It is estimated that over 500,000 Macs were infected. Last I read, it was estimated that over 200,000 Macs, most in the US, are still infected because Mac users still think they can't get viruses and do not bother to check to see if they do have one.

mac linux? It's UNIX. Not linux.... Mac isn't linux. It's based on the same principles as Linux. Linux imitates unix, which was stated in the post before, unix is what mac OSX is based on as mentioned but there is no such thing as "mac linux". Linux is linux.....mac OSX is mac OSX.

jquery has been known to give you some PUA false positives w/ clamav .. looks like you'll find some things if you google for your string..

I just mean if you search in google for:

    PUA.JS.Xored (3of) PUA.Script.packed.1

You'll probably find some supporting posts explaining that they may be false positives caused by jquery. :)

Infecting the Linux is little bit hard to do.but as it is also one of the operating system it may also be infected by some viruses or some malicious code that accidently run in your Linux machine.

    almost no viruses

As I know. There was like 4 or 5 viruses knowing for linux a few years ago. I believe in a idea a good linux user teach me once. Each single kernel turns very special and unique due to the different mods we do. This is.... The more you personalize your distro , more harder it is to develop a viruses. So , that way decrease the intention of viruses creator. In mac the problem is that the os isn t dynamic, is always th same thing. Hope helps

    clamav

The most use for this goes on web servers and mail servers in order to catch knowing viruses and treats because as server master you don t know what os runs on each client an must offer a good service. Hope helps
