    So I have a server I use.
    It's an Arch server.
I run a small text based game on it. That is coded in php/javascript.

Now I had this problem with speed a year ago. I had completely wrote this game from scratch.
Someone suggested It was due to poorly written code(Could of been)
So I set out on rewriting it using a framework. Which only took me 3 or so months. Since I did the speed has been flawless.

Now I'm having trouble out of the forums. Which are IPB. I've noticed the more users sign up the more it gets slower and the pages are slower to load.

I thought maybe I could upgrade the ram and disk space and maybe take care of this. But I wanna work a way around this without spending any more money that I have to.

Someone suggest I switch to a smaller forum?

So does anyone have any suggestions or anything?
I'm afraid if I don't get it taken care of soon. I may start to lose users.

I'd start by making all unnecessary services are not running on the server like nfsd, ftp, etc... if you install csf there is a great builtin tool to show you little security tweaks like that which will also keep the server running lean.

Then run a mysql tuning script to see where you can make that run leaner..

Hm thanks! I didn't really have that much running on there. But I'll definitely remove the useless ones. I'll give this csf a try as well!

    Thanks! :)

Take a look at the sysstat package for your distribution. It collects system stats and can give you a good view of where your problems might be. Start there and hopefully we can see what is happening. You may just need to make some app/server tweaks to get better performance.
