As mentioned, the only "definite" solution I can see is installing proprietary drivers and changing the display resolution to its native manually, since things looked ugly on default resolution after you loaded nvidia drivers.

Last time I did install the prop. Nvidia drivers and could never get the resolution close to what was tolerable.

I guess I don't have the chops / skills to get the prop. Nvidia installed and the resolution set to a tolerable point.

    So far today no problems.

I guess I would rather have a nice looking resolution and rebooting once in a while than having bad resolution and not rebooting.

I'm always ready willing and able to ask for help and follow the help. These forums have helped in the past and maybe can guide me in installing and correctly setting up prop. Nvidia stuff.

    2 steps:

1- Install a proprietary nvidia driver.
2 - In case the resolution is not ok after that and no good setting is promptly available, change it to your display native one, 1280x800 as it seems, by using xrandr directly or Ubuntu options.

I had the same problem precisely, some of my friends' LCDs had that native resolution and nvidia legacy drivers wouldn't offer satisfactory options out of the box. It was months ago, but I remember using cvt and xrandr to solve the issue.

Went all day yesterday and no problem. This morning I came to the computer and no problem.

Maybe it was just a one of a kind event. I'll bookmark your answer and if I start having the problem on a more regular basis.......I'll give the Prop. drivers a try.

    Thanks for your help.
