Here's what I want to do:
I have 9 or more desktops or workspaces loaded with different documents. I use the the rpi at church to communicate with the pastor during the service via large monitor at the back of the sanctuary, songs, scripture, announcements, etc. all in prescribed order.
I want to preload the desktops at home, shut it down, transport it to the church and boot it back up with everything intact. Presently this takes about 30 minutes to complete on Sunday morning so it would be a real time saver if I could do it Saturday night. Microsoft word allowed this about 15 years ago by saving workplaces so that one did not have to reload all the documents they were working on over a period of days.
Using Rpi Mod b and Raspian
    Thank you in advance, pww

    What is your desktop environment?

Xfce saves desktop sessions at shutdown/reboot/logoff by default, you could install it.
