I'm looking for a free service monitoring service. Something that notifies you if a specific service goes down via SMS or Email. Is there anything like this?

Take a look at Nagios. It's software, not a service, but it's great and very reliable. I would recommend that you consider handling your own monitoring with this application instead of relying on a free 3rd party service.

    Good luck!

Thanks! I'll download and install it now, I desperately need something like this. Of course, when I'm on my computer, I'm not constantly staring at my servers status's so this could be helpful.

Hmm, well I do really want something free, I may be willing to pay eventually, but not right now.

    Hey

You can try out Cacti http://www.cacti.net/ for monitoring your network or Observium : http://www.observium.org

Both are useful for monitoring your networks.

You can use Ganglia http://ganglia.info for normal server monitoring.

I hope they are useful for you. I just googled them up, didn't try any myself as i feel comfortable with command line.
