Recently I have encountered a problem with the update manager in linux 15. It keeps saying "could not downoad all repository indexes. Then it shows this...

Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

If these updates won't download can I delete them so that ones that can be downloaded will be next time I get an update?

According to Wikipedia support for Linux Mint 15 ended in January 2014. There won't be any more upgrades.

I recently had problems trying to upgrade from 16 to 17. There are guidelines for upgrading 15 to 16 e.g. http://www.tecmint.com/upgrade-linux-mint-15-olivia-to-linux-mint-16-petra/ ...but I think the best way forward is to save "Home" to a USB drive and then do a fresh install.

So in other words as long as I am still on Linux 15 then I will keep getting that same error message and no update packages will be downloaded .
