How many sites do you have on your server?

I have three so far, this includes my technology forum, my blog, and another forum I'm working on.

    What about you?

At the last count, I have already got ten sites loaded onto one of my servers and two on the other one. Took up plenty of dedicated ips, too. I have 10 dedicated ips on one and 12 on the other. Probably adding another handful of sites before New Year's day. All part of my PM3.

    Nice :) How's performance? Also, what is a PM3?

PM3 is a Perpetual Money Making Machine. It's based on the idea of a number of feeder blog sites driving traffic to a forum. Members of the forum are offered guest blogging opportunities with full revenue from their own affiliate links in exchange for post count on the forum. The idea is that the guest blog posts would generate more traffic driven to the forum which in turn would generate more guest blog posts and so it goes round and round.

Speed so far is still good. I am aiming for page load speeds of under 2 seconds. So far so good. One site is already getting more than 1000 page views every day. The key is using the Guardian News feed and Super News search plugins. I get free quality articles that way.

So basically you're copying articles somebody else wrote and posting them on your site? That's going to get you in super hot water with Google.

    No, I am not.

The Guardian officially consented to let me publish their articles for free with the condition that I do not change anything in the articles and I put the link to The Guardian. Also I am permitted to add my own writing, whether a comment or an excerpt or another article on top of their articles.

For Super News Search, I am also permitted, with their explicit consent, to publish the excerpts and links. I use this to add 'Further Reading' material to the end of my articles. You should check out the articles in my website to see how this works.

The traffic is good because the articles are professionally written and the SEO is very well done with proper tags. Average page view per day is about 1500. That's without me having to do any SEO work at all. Not bad, don't you think?

Huh, that is pretty good :) I might have to experiment with that set up.
What is the link to your website? The one in your signature doesn't seem to be it.

Yes, it is. The article about the Giant Pandas is from The Guardian and the excerpts at the end of the article were from Super News Search. Have a look again.

I also have a tech blog and a travel guide site. They're not really something that earn a lot for now but maybe later. When I first created the site i thought its easy to earn hundreds, I guess i just have to push harder. :D

I have 5 clients hosted on my server. It has 3 Blogs running basically a Webhost, Mumble Server (not running 24/7, only running when needed).

The servers performance is great, i don't see much load at all, usually it's averaged at 0.00 - 0.05 with 25 % of Ram usage on a total of 256MB RAM.

I run 300 sites per server on my 1GHz 1GB server (not rackshack).I use cpanel as the backend my domain registration service (10MB free web hosting) and have had as many as 2050 sites on one server with 512MB of RAM and no down time ever.

125+ normal, commercial websites on one of our VMs running Centos 6.2. Really, the number of sites is only limited to the amount of traffic the network interface can handle. Today's Linux kernels and server hardware are so efficient and fast that typically the bottleneck becomes network availability; webserving is a very simple task and will not put the hardware or os under any strain, compared to other types of processing.

Have you experimented with other distros as the OS on your servers? Or did you just go with CentOS because everyone else uses it?

This depends on the number of sites. I offer hosting services, so I have linux servers which host only 1 site and also linux servers which host more than 250 sites!
