I have a Dell XPS M1330 with Intel Dual core.

Preloaded windows 7 was very slow on it so I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on it but I think that my system is not capable to handle requirements of Ubuntu as it is very slow in response. Can someone suggest me a lite GUI Linux version. I plan to watch movies on this system so a lite version that is comparable with avi or flash player would suffice.

    Thanks a lot.

Hi mitabh - welcome to the Linux Forum!

Dell sold the M1330 preloaded with Ubuntu - so it's probably a good fit for you.. you could try a lighter desktop like xfce (http://www.xfce.org/)... that should speed things up for you!

You can install it pretty easily:

    Code:
sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude install xubuntu-desktop
Then, log out of X .. and choose xfce when you log back in in the sessions drop-down..

Do not use ubuntu. All distros based on it have a lot of resource demand. I highly recommend zenix. Very powerfull inside the small distros and it is based on debian
