Red Hat Linux 3? It is too old. After that, Red Hat Linux reached 9 and RHEL and Fedora were born. RHEL goes to 6 and Fedora goes to 20 now.

Fedora allows you to select partitions during installation. There usually is a button there with a name like "customize the partition" or similar....
To find out which packages you have just installed, check the /var/log/yum.log file for yum's log.

Subversion is a great tool. But I think git is taking away the popularity from it.
