Hi everyone!

Im David from Sweden also new to the world of Linux. My first task is obvious to learn how to install a linux dist and get used to the commands. What i am aiming for is to be able to setup and administer diffrent servers running on linux like ftp, mail and other daily administrator duties.

The dists i think of using out is Arch, FreeBSD, Gentoo or Slackware. You should point me in a better direction if im out on deep water.

Linux Format Magazine has lots of useful tutorials and pdf's on different topics Link: http://www.linuxformat.com/
Of course there world class tutorials at this site and many knowledgeable people here to help.

Welcome to our community.

Welcome to the forums. There are many people here that are willing to help.

FreeBSD is not a GNU/Linux distribution but a *BSD operating system. Despite that, those seem like decent options if you want to learn. I would concentrate on GNU/Linux first though if you're completely new to *nix and consider *BSD in the future.

Considering that you are new to GNU/Linux, the best distros to choose may include

Ubuntu
Fedora
Linux Mint

Hej David.

Arch and Gentoo are generally not for beginners.

If you want to set up and administer servers consider using Debian Stable. Look at http://debian-handbook.info/ - where you can download a free PDF.

hello my new community of Linus ! I want to thank you and I'm looking at how to ask for help. I have looked for what I need help with but can't find it. Do I ask for help here or somewhere else like a forum ?

Thank you DevynCJohnson and arochester i might play around with Fedora aswell if Arch and Gentoo gets to intimidating : ) . Aswell keep Debian in mind for sever purpose.
