Mount a virtual machine

I want to mount a virtual machine to learn a little fortran, python and C++, a friend suggest me linux and I have some expierince with some distribution, but i dont know what distribution can use for this, i only have 4 Gb RAM and I5 so what you recomend me?

I'd say Xubuntu since your probably coming from Windows background XFCE is a good window manager to start with also less ram requirements than straight out Ubuntu http://xubuntu.org/

Really, with those specs, you should be able to use any disto you want to. From my experience a Virtual Machine will use about half your RAM - and 2Gb is enough to run anything.#

Either stick with OpenSuse if you want to, or change, but it's you choice.
 
Yeah the vast majority of distros can be used through a VM (I'm using CentOS through VMWare to write this right now) so it really comes down to personal preference, same as picking a distro as a main OS.

If you're fairly familiar with Linux, Debian or Fedora may be a good choice. If you want to get more in-depth with the install (learn a lot more at the expense of more time/possibility for errors) you may want to try Arch, Gentoo, or Crunchbang.
