Dual monitor problem

Hello to all, as this is my first post in this forum. I am completely new to Linux and I decided to try the Netrunner distro. I'm having trouble getting my second monitor to work correctly. When I plug in the coord to my HDMI port, both screens, my laptop and Dell monitor, go messy and become unresponsive. I've looked at similar posts to try to resolve the issue, but with no luck. I've tried
sudo apt-get install arandr
Then went to system settings>randr> and tried to configure it, but nothing came to it.
I'm not even sure how to configure this thing, because I can't plug it in without my screen becoming unresponsive and scratch.
Hope someone can assist me, thanks.

1) What EXACTLY is the make and model of your laptop?
2) What distro are you using?

I'm using Netrunner distro, it's built on Kubuntu>Ubuntu>Debian core. I've also read that it's very similar to Mint.
My laptop is an HP Envy M-6 K010DX. I have a AMD A10-5745M APU AProccessor with AMD Radeon HD 8610G graphic card.

post the output of this command:

So, that's with the HDMI output not being used, right? When you say messy and unresponsive, what do you mean exactly?

Also, can you get me the same output, but with the HDMI monitor connected?

Yes, it's with HDMI output not in use. By messy, I mean the screen becomes scratching, and stretched out, and sometimes it goes black. I'm unable to see my mouse cursor or do anything to the desktop, I have to force restart my laptop.
Sorry, I can't even give you the command output with HDMI plugged in, because each time I plug it in, the occurrence of what I explained above happens...
Also, when I try rebooting my laptop with the HDMI in, after choosing Ubuntu(I decided to switch over to Ubuntu 13) the screen goes to the logo, then goes black. This also happened with Netrunner, before I switched.

Have you tried this with other HDMI devices? If so, what effect?
Does the monitor have other interfaces, and if so, what is the effect when you use them?

Sorry for the late reply. It seems all hell has broke loose. I decided to download fglrx and after downloading I restarted the laptop. Inciden I ignored ittally, what I downloaoded was wrong, I believe I need to do manual configurations because my graphics card does not seem to be supported.
Here is the issue, after restarting the laptop and loggging in I kept getting thrown into a black screen. Ok, so then I tried rebooting using another distro(so I can search up some solutions on the web), which worked fine. Being dumb, I tried to install the distro to replace Ubuntu, in order to reinstall all over again, but an error came up about there already being dev-sda1 or something of the sort.

I ignored it once, then instantly cancelled the installation. I then restarted my laptop again and I get dropped off to my GNU Grub command line. I try booting it from there but I get a vsf error. I try booting ubuntu and another distro from usb but I only get a black screen, yet I hear the laptop and I assume it's working. Another curious note, I checked my BIOS info and saw that I have 6GB in total memory.
I'm currently searching through my files with grub to find the fglrx I downloaded.
As for what I have stated above, I've recently solved the problem. I was able to boot Ubuntu from my USB by enabling Legacy in BIOS. The only question I have left is, after I try to install Ubuntu, when restarting, the installation doesn't finish. Am I supposed to take out the USB before the GNU options show? Although I don't see an opportunity for me to do it without possibly screwing things up again. Also, this may be a dumb question, and the purpose for the dumb question may be based on ignorance, but is it possible to create another live USB with another distro, even though I don't have Ubuntu installed. I have real issue with Ubuntu, it's kind of like giving a toddler alcohol and through that bad experience, when he/she grows up they become wary of it.
Brandon (Not sure if this would be considered closed, or solved, I am unsure of how the forum operates, so if I do something that is not appropiate, please inform me)

Problem solved. I have Ubuntu 13.04 up and running. Though my dual monitors aren't working, I want to figure it out myself. Thanks for the help people.
