My friends call me Bere (Pronounced Beer) and I have played with Linux off and on over my time as an IT professional. I have worked mostly with hardware and windows. I have recently installed Debian on an old laptop I had and am now working on putting in a small ticketing system on an old server so my boss and I can keep track of tickets. I figured this would be a great time for me to get in my techie hip boots and go all in to learning Linux. I love my laptop though I and am still working on playing games on it, but not really done much with the server so I figured Debian would be a good choice to stick with.
I have almost no Linux command line exp. My boss even less. I was hoping to get Gnome or KDE working with it but I can't seem to get it going. I will be posting that question in another post. I thank you for your time and hope to work more with you all to some point of being able to answer newbie questions with the best of them.
Live long and prosper.

Hello and welcome.

You can download, free, the Debian Administrator's Handbook from here: http://debian-handbook.info/get/now/

Your experience will tell you that a Server is normally "headless" i.e. it does not have a Desktop Environment like Gnome or KDE or a Windows Manager. If you have done a Server install you will need to add the DE yourself.

Thank you for the link! as for downloading the the DE I tried it just said it could not find. There might be a network issue as we have to use something out side of our company network because of fire walls we have no control over so we hooked it up to our guest network but that seems to not be working either now (noone can connect to the internet) so I think its just that.
