Looking into linux as an OS for the computer I'm building, and wish a little input if you plz.
I'm not a Geek nor computer savy, I wish a system that will work with most games new and old, not try to push me into this or that because of spy wear installed with windows. Don't tell me oh it is for my own good so i must do it this way or not at all, this is what windows does and i'm so fed up i could just scream. I'm not the fastest person on the net but i learn given the time. Is linux the way to go?

Yes, in my opinion, Linux us the best. As for a specific distro, I would recommend Ubuntu for your needs.

If you are SERIOUSLY into games, then Windows is probably the only way to go. SOME Windows games will play on Linux but NOT ALL.

There are an increasing number of games available in Linux now.

 Arochester, you traitor. How can you recommend Windows over Linux on a Linux site? ;)

WINE may be the solution to running Windows games on Linux. WINE works very well. However, I have had some issues.

one day surely linux is gonna suppress windows even in gaming man

DevynCJohnson which distro do u use

I use Ubuntu on my laptop and a Raspbian derivative on my Raspberry Pi system.

If you go to WineHQ.org, you can see a list of some of the unsupported games and games with minor or major issues. True, Linux cannot support all Windows games, but can Windows support all Linux games?

help me please, i want to be a good programmer, and i confuse about OS i must choose .. so help me if you know it

I THINK opensuse will be the right one for you man

Thanks I'm looking into Ubuntu now have a few days before the parts get here. I have not build a computer bye myself before so forgive me being a little slow and not knowing the lingo.

I'm trying very hard to get away from the ever limiting windows.
The new windows 8 doesn't even give you start-up options must-less a desktop that is user friendly, God forbid i have something other then the touch screen. I see nothing wrong with wanting to make my own designations on my computer. Not being able to get a computer with out window already instilled weather i want it or not I'm now building from mother board out.

We're in agreement that Windows 8 is terrible all around.
That being said I have to agree with aro that unfortunately Linux just doesn't have the compatibility Windows has had in gaming over the years mostly due to partnerships with Microsoft. Games are made for Windows OSes and will always perform the best on Windows. This doesn't mean games are unplayable on Linux, but the selection isn't as great and imho won't be for a number of years.

Wine is a good alternative, but runs like a VM and adds another layer of communication between the program and that hardware so it will never be as fast as a native-run game.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't try Linux or that Linux is useless. Macs have had the same gaming issues for years and that obviously hasn't slowed popularity. I use Linux is on all my get things done computers. Whether this is just checking emails or coding and web design. I still have Windows 7 on my custom build desktop though as that is the only PC I use for gaming.

Linux is a completely new operating system though and I would HIGHLY recommend testing it out if you have an available computer. Linux is much more user-friendly that in the past but it still can require a bit of technical know-how if you do run into problems. If you easily get frustrated with Windows it could be twice as bad on Linux if you don't like working with the command line or don't want to have to troubleshoot bugs. You can install Linux through a virtual machine (such as https://www.virtualbox.org/) on your Windows PC to try it out or run it off of a burned CD.
Stick with Ubuntu or Mint as these are very user-friendly and very stable across a multitude of hardware

Unless you have an MS surface or other tablet. In which case Win 8 is awesome. But, on almost 85% of all other computers/tablets Win 8 is terrible.

That being said, I thank MS for making it. 1. Valve decided to add Linux because of Win 8. 2. Win 8 Metro is driving users to Linux in DROVES. Thank you MS for making a version of Windows that makes Linux more compelling. :)
