Hi,
I am a grad student and have an old laptop with vista that I used for gaming. It is slow at times as you may well know so I am going to give linux a try. I want to breathe new life into my laptop and I am brand new to linux but like the idea of freedom. My problem is that there are so many different flavors I don't know which one to choose. I am going to use it to fiddle with powerpoints and word documents and want to keep vista just for gaming if I ever have time. Hopefully I will be able to fully switch. Any ideas about which operating system would be welcome and thank you in advance.

You can install two systems at the same time, the choice wants to enter the system when the phone is switched on. I suggest you can try ubuntu, it is very cool.

Hey there welcome to the forum...if you are into Linux..than Ubuntu is the best option for you..Linux is a great OS but is a but complicated..you certainly won't find it easier than the XP or the Vista..but the interface is great..

thank you both. I ended up installing Mint and I like it so far.

Personally, I'm a Debian fan. It looks less cluttered and for me it is all easy enough to get it configured. If you're new, though, I think Ubuntu is the best. Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu which in turn is based on Debian, so that one might be very good to beginners as well.

I'm a Chinese,you must know more English words than me,right?I am a novice.;):D
