i've not used linux b4 what version? is there a max download size for cd?

Hi im brand new to linux (or i was hoping to be) today.

I've got an old(ish) toshiba dual cpu 2.17GHz - 2GB ram currently running a 32bit vista and Im wandering witch version of linux to go for.

Prefebly an easy to use version (although I'll pick it up quick Im sure)

Also wandering if there is a max size download I can fit on a blank CD-R 700mb as I only have 1 disc left atm and hope to have linux up and running today.

Linux Mint is the most newbie-friendly, although you'll have to load it on a USB stick instead of a CD. CDs generally only hold 750mb and Mint won't fit. Mageia is also newbie-friendly but you'll have to install some extra multimedia codecs (that's easy in Mageia). Mageia's download mirrors do include some versions that will fit on a CD and run live (without installing so you can try it out first). If you go that route, I'd recommend Mageia's KDE version as that's what they're known for. Check out distrowatch.com for info and reviews of most distributions.

hello member, please make an iso cd of watts os 6 or peppermint 3 these light weight version's of ubuntu 12.04 would still fit on a 700mb cdr

There is also a version called DSL Linux "Damn Small Linux" that is about 54MB in total.
