Hi all,
which operating system and software required for start web hosting?
(1) Linux centos operating system.
(2) C panel & WHM.
and what else ?

and what is server requirement specification minimums for start.

thanks.

If you're a new person, you may want to start with a preconfigured server. If you're learning, then your server will most certainly have very small requirements.

I have a Turnkey virtual appliance setup to run a web server, including Ubuntu, MySQL, Apache, etc. Run it under VirtualBox and learn what all the components do before trying to create your own.

better option

Do it with opensuse and ispconfig. Easy to install and manage. But most important, you will find tons of support and related info. Hope helps

Alternatively, you can use Debian and Webmin. Anything that can run Windows can run Debian and Webmin.

Agree with forestplay, if you are a newbie to linux, and you want to run a small business. Cpanel would be you best choice. Many host company such as bluehost supply 'One Click' service for starting a website.
But if you want to start from the begining and you want to run a big and continue business, CentOs is the right operating system that you want, no UBUNTU or Debian and this is why:http://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/1ws7xy/debian_vs_centos_on_servers/

Not always. I have a client with an fairly new HP computer that will not boot from a Debian Live-CD or any other Distro that I have tried, including several Linux based Anti-Virus Live-CD's. I use Debian almost exclusively. Some proprietary drivers are not available for Linux.

I have to ask that we do not reopen posts that are two years old.

I also have problem with my new HP Pavilion 17... can't install Linux !? I've tried Kubuntu and Xubuntu with no luck... :(
