I have to say I am looking forward to grabbing my first Tablet with Ubuntu installed. Looks a real bad boy!

I will be acquiring one as soon as I can - Has anyone had any experience with Ubuntu on a Tab? Which one?

interesting. how do we download and install ubuntu in a tablet?
my girl will acquire a new ipad3 and she'll give her current ipad 1 to me later.. wanna try this. :D

hope we can downlaod files using ubuntu in the tablet as ios5 can't.

You need to have android, download the linux loader app, and be able to root it. It's that easy!

do you mean its just an apps?
I actually search "linux loader" in the App store but found none.

I never even knew they would develop something like that. It is really cool. Someone please post a download link to get that software for the tablet (If one exists).

That will be awesome if we can finally have a tablet that boots up using Ubuntu. I will be looking forward on that.

Personally, I don't think any tablet manufacturer will load Ubuntu onto their products from the factory. I could be wrong, but I just don't think that the average consumer has any business with Ubuntu. Of course, I'd love to see it happen, it just seems unlikely to me.

I have to agree with Microsuck. The Ubuntu name isn't that large with regular consumers. I would guess it would be installed by the user when you get a tablet with existing Windows, Android, or any other operating system.

I can't wait to see Ubuntu available on a phone. Now that would be cool.

Its not just unlikely ,its a fact ! But you brought up a very good point !

Hello everyone,
There IS a way to install Ubuntu on an iPad. You need to install Android on your iPad (Google it) and then get the app and everything.

Scotty, do you mean "linux launcher"? (I don't have a tab, i have a samsung galaxy sIII android phone) Been having problems transfering files - by problems i mean, completely unsuccessful (pics, music etc...) to/ from my ubuntu/ linux laptop. Guys, would it help if i upload the launcher to my phone or will it not make any difference at all? Thanks.

Ha ha!
As this thread has very helpfully been resurrected, I thought I'd share this shocking revelation:

You may not believe this, but I've had a Ubuntu tablet since Ubuntu 6.06.... It currently runs Xubuntu 14.04. It's an ancient, bulky RM tablet from the early 2000's which is about the size/weight of a medium to large laptop. It weighs an absolute ton!

There's a touch-screen, but not as we'd know it nowadays - It only works with a stylus. An 800Mhz Intel processor, 768Mb RAM (upgraded from 256Mb), one USB port and a 500Gb HD (upgraded from 20Gb). Plus there is a huge docking station with a CD-ROM drive, old-style PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports, COM port, Serial port, VGA out and some additional USB ports. Heh heh!

And it's still going strong - albeit slowly..... I really need to look into putting something more lightweight onto it. Perhaps Crunchbang, or maybe Puppy. I also need to find a new stylus for it as one of my sproglings has very kindly broken the current one! :(
