Do you like Ubuntu's Unity interface?

Since 11.04 came out, Ubuntu has come with its own interface called Unity. I've heard of a lot of people having issues with it because it was buggy and because it was a bit of a switch for them from Gnome.

I personally like it, the sidebar is pretty cool. I don't like how they moved the menu button to the sidebar from the menubar in 11.10, though.

What about you? Do you like Unity?

Just tried out Unity on the Sabily distro. Got a bit disoriented at first. I think I can get to like it if I use it more. However, I am more in favor of simpler desktops which use less resources. Don't see any point in using distros which get bloated like Windows.

Unused resources are wasted resources! If each one of us has core i5 and 4GB RAM (or sth similar), why choose your enviroment based on resources it needs?

I don't know, what i should think about it. I don't use Ubuntu, i'm a Gentoo guy. But the problem with Unity in the first place was the stability. In Ubuntu 12.04 it hopefully becomes stable enough to use. I stay with the LTS Version. All in between is work in progress and not very usable.

I like the Mac like style, but sometimes i have the feeling that Ubuntu is losing it's own face....

Update:
Here Some about the Unity design. kind of good related to this Topic.

I don't. I don't like the new interface or the newer versions of Ubuntu. So I think I'll just stick with good ol' Xubuntu. :)

I like the Unity interface and its concept actually, I just don't think it's implemented well enough yet. There's still too many bugs to deal with that bog it down and a lot of features that could make it usable are not good enough or don't actually exist yet.

Unity has the capacity to be great, but right now, it's not great yet. It's a young desktop environment that needs to mature and improve some more for it to be usable and efficient. I'm quite sure other well established desktop environments like Gnome and KDE had to go through this process too. Unity will be just as awesome as them one day. I'll be quite happy the day that happens, but until then, I'm staying away from Unity.

To say that I do not like Unity, at all, would be a lie. I love the look of Unity. I love the features that it offers and the ability to have such easy access to a variety of programs. It is sleek and has the potential to be quite powerful. Unity has a lot of potential, but there is a long way before that full potential is reached.

I cannot run Unity properly and I have seen reports that many Linux users that have a difficult time running this new environment. I find that my Ubuntu experience has gone down considerably. I have never truly figured out why the Unity desktop causes some performance issues on my desktop. I researched, even asked for opinions throughout the forums, regarding my system specs and it would appear that I should be able to run the system easily. My system has slower loading times and the time to load something as simple as a browser is quite ridiculous.

I hate it, it's the reason I gave up on Ubuntu... and gnome classic in the recent versions is just utter rubbish. They're just trying to make Ubuntu more comercial and try to raise the market percentage with all these changes which just complicate the OS and offer nothing but some fancy new design to play with.

I started to use Ubuntu not very long before Unity came out, however, I still preferred it prior to Unity's release. But maybe that's because I tend to not like "radical changes" in my desktop haha.

I hate unity. It's what made me switch to Mint. :) Much prefer Mint's UI to Ubuntu Unity.

Unity is a utility interface, fast and beautiful. The only drawback is that only in the management of workspaces in gnomeshell are handled in a better way. Gnome2 is slow to use and requires you to install gnome-do dock and make it good x. Ubuntu's unity is a good interface and I think the best present.

I'm giving it a few days to grow on me... I'm trying to remember to take advantage of the Dash and the HUD more often, which are supposed to be a few of the key selling points of Unity.

I have been using Mint for a while now on many of my machines - it is probably my favorite model so far.

I been using Ubuntu 11.10, which is using Unity as its interface, I like it but it seems that the icons are big enough. I would prefer to use GNOME or KDE other than unity.

No, it's buggy and ugly however I like the default applications in Ubuntu

An alternative to ubuntu is Linux Mint which is basically prettier and more efficient Ubuntu with codecs and flash preinstalled. Versions of Linux Mint are based on Ubuntu however Ubuntu is separating itself from the rest of Linux with Unity. Linux Mint 11 (based on Ubuntu 11.04) will NOT use Unity or Gnome Shell and will use their own version of Gnome 3 in traditional layout.

I hated Unity when I first tried it too. I kept my distance from Ubuntu waiting for them to come to their senses and realize the errors of their ways. This, of course, never happened.

Sometime around the middle of April, I decided to try an experiment and use Ubuntu exclusively for a month. It took a day or two to get used to, but now I actually like most of it. I like being able to type in a letter or two and have the icon for a program I want to start almost instantaneously appear in the HUD. That is much quicker than scrolling through menus. Unity still lacks in a lot of areas, such as customization, but it is a very usable OS and Shuttleworth may actually be on to something.

I also hated Gnome 3 when it came out. This is what drove me from Fedora. I know that I could install other DEs besides Gnome 3, but when they made the switch, I decided it was time to distro hop.

My next experiment is to use Gnome 3 for a whole month. I have Fedora 16 installed. I haven't used it much yet because I haven't had the time to get everything set up yet, such as a Windows VM so that I can use it to watch Netflix. But, as soon as I do, it will be all Gnome 3 for at least 30 days.

Maybe I will try KDE again the same way.

I love Unity. I am happily using Unity as I type this post.
