Hi there guys,

my name is Kenny, 17 years old, and I am currently doing an apprenticeship to become a system administrator.
Originated from Poland I now live in Germany.

I am a huge fan of Linux operating systems and run 7 servers myself, 3 of which are hosted at Intergenia, while four of them run in my house at home.
I am reselling my server webspace and also vServers (which I run on my hosted root via KVM hypervisor).

My favourite distributions are Debian, followed by Ubuntu. I mostly use Debian for low-spec environments (such as my two home servers, which actually are misused Fujitsu-Siemens A240 thin clients) and Ubuntu for user-friendly vServers and game servers.

I hope to find fellow Linux fans in this forums, as well as being able to extend my knowledge to some point.

Regards
Kenny

Hey there Kenniki ! :)

First of all Welcome to Linuxforum.com!

You must be a real good Power User of Linux. I checked out Intergenia and it looks like a German host but it has Datacenters across the US also.

At present i just own a single VPS and it's really hard to maintain just one alone xD. I would love to learn a lot about server maintenance from you.

I also use Debian on my Internet Mobile Tablet - Nokia N900 ( Meego , Maemo, LXDE)

I've also hosted a Counter Strike 1.6 gaming server and it ran good :D

I'm a great fan of Linux ! :)

Hi there DaReaper!

Sure thing, just contact me if you need help with anything.
I'm not a pro tho, I just know how to find the stuff I need and am a huge fan of good infrastructures, that's how I'm able to keep up with managing this amount of machines :)

Have a nice day!

Thanks for that :D. I'd be glad to contact you incase i needed any assistance. I also needed to know how you were monitoring all your servers. Do you use any internal monitoring tools ? Not the thirdparty ones, as in self-hosted and which are free.

Sooner or later i might own a couple of other VPS's and i'd also have to know how to monitor all of them.

thanks ! :)

Dear Admin/mod - Kindly delete this post (I don't know how it double posted this for me, must be my browser =/ )

I still mainly use Icinga as the monitoring tool, but I'm creating my own monitoring solution based on SSL, PHP and lighttpd, because I don't need 95% of Icingas functionality and a self-created solution is much easier to extend.

Also Icinga is way too much integrated into its host system (it installs itself in all of /usr, /var, /sbin, /opt and the users home directory), so that it is really hard to remove it altogether.

One thing I've never gotten to run via Icinga is sending push notifications to my phone, which my solution is already able to do.

I also get a notification on SSH login that tells me an one-time pass which I need to login so it is almost impossible to get past the SSH login prompt.

My monitoring solution looks like this by the way:

Every client runs a simple monitoring interface, secured by http authentification, aswell.

That's a nice Server monitoring interface, at present SolusVM displays something similar for my VPS and i rely mostly on Command Line to know about system performance.

Thanks a lot for letting me know about Icinga, also glad to know that it is OSS. At present i'm having it installed and setup on my VPS.
