Cpu

Can someone explain how CPU's work, little hard to explain what I mean..

For example, if a host says they provide:
2x1.2Ghz
3x1.2Ghz
4x1.2Ghz
5x1.2Ghz

In this case: http://x10vps.com/self-managed-vps.php

Does that simply mean you get 5 1.2ghz processors?

If a host say 5x1.2Ghz, they'd better be giving you 5x cpus. What you're talking about though is called "Fair share cpu" .. so they could be talking about anything.. ie: 2-5% of a 1.2Ghz cpu? I don't think they're putting 5 high availability cpus in a vps for $35/mo.. unless they're shared w/ other systems.

Stick w/ hosts you've heard of :) That one looks like a scam.

Unfortunately, in hosting there are many ways the buy less than what you are being shown. Shared CPU's, Shared Memory, Shared O/S. I suggest finding a host that offers VPS servers that are built on high quality software like Citrix XenServer Enterprise or VMWare Enterprise. In my experience, anything less and you are getting ripped off at some level...

Remember, you get what you pay for!
Good luck.

Thanks. They also offer a 'VPS Dedicated' package which has Dedicated CPU. If I ever purchased one of those plans, is there any way to tell if the CPU I'm getting is actually dedicated?
