Sun Brings Niagara 2 Chip to Open Source, Dec 12, 2007

After releasing the multicore, multithreaded chip earlier this year, Sun plans to release the UltraSPARC T2's source code to the open-source community.

Appro, which recently signed a contract to build three high-performance computer clusters for the U.S. Department of Energy, is eying a larger portion of the commercial supercomputer market for itself.

Dell plans on expanding the reach of its factory-installed Linux PCs to include small and midsize businesses and Europe, Michael Dell, the company's founder and CEO, said at a July 10 event in New York.

Linux and possible channel model are the latest significant moves by the beleaguered OEM.
