CMP Channel Test Center conducted its first-ever World Series of Linux, looking at six desktop distributions of the Open Source OS. Over three rounds, they were put through the paces to see if Linux is ready for prime time.

Ian Murdock, the chief technology officer of the recently formed Linux Foundation is set to address a group of Microsoft employees on February 20.

Novell and Xandros are battling it out to claim a piece of the desktop market dominated by Microsoft. But their approaches are dramatically different: Xandros’ strategy seems to be to win the hearts and minds of consumers even as it tackles the corporate space. Novell, meanwhile, is building on its deep roots in businesses.
