SUSE Linux promoted as an alternative for companies looking to avoid the expense of a Windows upgrade.

Novell delivered a roundhouse punch to SCO Group in their dispute over who owns the copyright to Unix. In court papers filed last week, Novell says SCO received nearly US$26 million in Unix System V license fees from Microsoft and Sun Microsystems. But, contrary to its 1995 Asset Purchase Agreement with Novell, SCO has failed to pass the fees on to Novell.

IBM, once a bastion of proprietary mainframe technology, says efforts to entice developers to create open source applications for servers based on its Power chip architecture are paying off as the number of Linux-on-Power programs has more than doubled over the past two years.
