The last quarter was the single best quarter in history for open source companies raising venture capital according to the 451 Group.

Novell is going to push and support the freebie version of IBM's WebSphere Application Server, derived from IBM's acquisition of GlueCode in 2005, as part of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server under a new deal between the pair.

The Linux Foundation (LF), the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, announced that Nokia Siemens Networks has become a member. Nokia Siemens Networks will work with the LF and its members to continue improving Carrier Grade Linux.

Overall, my productivity and the scope of things I can do with Ubuntu far exceed what I could do with Windows and just as importantly Ubuntu (like any Linux would) lets me easily create my own productivity shortcuts of a variety of sorts.

Our corporate mission is "To make superior database management available and affordable to all." We believe that porting a GPL version of MySQL for the SCO OpenServer platform gives thousands of users more options when it comes to choosing a database -- which is a good thing. The deal produces revenue for us and this allows us to hire more open source developers.

In a deal similar to one it already has with Novell, IBM is now joining hands with market leader Red Hat to push Linux into emerging markets such as China, India, Russia and Korea without overlooking the established markets.
