In the next few Shareware Reports, we’ll describe how we installed Ubuntu version 7.04 on Hammond Eggar, our decidedly antiquated laptop from our old radio show, The Computer Report, the pitfalls we encountered, as well as the many pleasant surprises we had when we rebooted ol’ Hammond.

Oracle has released a scaled-down version of its new flagship 10g database product in a free, "express" version targeted at low-end users, developers, students -- and the open source community.

Novell has signed a national agreement with the New Zealand Ministry of Education to provide all state and state-integrated schools with a range of Novell software, including SUSE Linux operating systems.
