If that had been the attitude of FOSS developers long ago we wouldn't have a system called GNU/Linux today. The dedication of those who believe that "everyone have the right and freedom to contribute in building a better world" cannot be underestimated.

There's a big difference of doing what you can within your power and reach versus watch things pass by and do nothing. Such is the attitude the article writer wants us to do.
