This is a comment on news story: Red Hat sees no consumer desktop Linux in its future

It must be a slow news week - or is it "International Stating the Obvious Day"?

Why would RedHat squander profits trying to support a 'Desktop Linux' with Joe Average as the user? Think about it - RedHat didn't make money being stupid, and 'Average Joe' uses WinDos. They're doing the right thing and concentrating on keeping their business profitable - {K}Ubuntu and a few others seem to be doing a pretty good job of being a generic desktop operating system. (And of course there are the numerous special-interest distributions - isn't that great - no one can do that sort of funky stuff with non-free software.)
