They may be affordable to some people, but desktop computers use the next-to-lowest-cost components on the market. What you get is inferior to, say, an SGI Altix 4700 (http://www.sgi.com/products/servers/altix/4000/). Who knows what these people are thinking selling or buying desktop computers based on cheap Intel or AMD CPUs. After all, with VisDuh you'll need something as powerful as an Altix so you can get your pretty transparent 3D effects. Ooooo.... Aaaaaaaaah... Let me see ... a lot of the work I do can be handled by a 200MHz machine (and these days, such a machine can fit in the palm of my hand and consume a mere 5W even when fitted with 512M memory; maybe up to 10W with a 120GB HD). The few exceptions in my work involve data processing and compiling/testing code (I'm too impatient to wait several minutes for a program to build). So for those people who just want an affordable computer to write letters, print things, do layout and editing of their home-based publication, edit photos, set up a web server so the relatives can see the latest baby pics and holiday pics, use online chat, play chess against a machine, watch a DVD, play a CD, do sound editing, read and write email, browse the internet, and do thousands of other things, what's wrong with these el-cheapo computers?

This is a GREAT article for people like myself who feel a touch of "schadenfreud" at seeing how yet another pundit can make an absolute fool of himself by composting another article about something that he hasn't bothered to research, and apparently knows essentially nothing about. A quick perusal of the comments to his article shows that his readers are not nearly as gullible and ignorant as he seems to think they are.
