Does any one know... by: cadstarsucks
Last I knew they were not letting anyone outside the US order them... While we struggle to escape the grips of the Redmond Mafia, Europe begs for Linux.

I say we outlaw preinstalled OSes and have the stores sell the OSes installed on HDs and let the customer decide based on the cost of the HD!

Hm, I think that would not work, selling hard drives only with the system in them. Have you ever tried to transplant a master hard drive from one machine to another? It has a lot of trouble, because it will need all different configurations and setting in the system file, depending on the whole set of hardware. I did bring my old HD when I moved out of my country, and assembled a computer "around it". Did not work for the OS, of course, had to reinstall. But all my data was there, which was what I wanted. Now, maybe someone will figure out a smart way to get the hard drive to "adapt" to the new computer. But I guess it would be as much work for the final user as just installing the OS from scratch anyway...
