One fact that Linus is forgetting is that in the US the laws are not made by people or technology they are made by corporate money.

Corporate money does not care what is right or good for society, all it cares about is growing. Millions are spent buying congress and billions are spent buying public opinion. The end result is the deepest pocket wins instead of what is best.
