News Comment
This is a comment on news story: 'No alternative' to Microsoft fine
It's a reply to comment: double entendre?

Re: double entendre? by: nycace36
Hear, hear to that!

One can also harken back to Don Tennant's online piece 'Rotten Effort' in the May 08, 2006 issue of ComputerWorld.
One would guess that today's tech news 'Microsoft keelhauls 26 software pirates' (in vnunet.com among other sites) indicates that M$'s tactics are only marginally evolving, if at all, from those used against Dale Frantz.

Note the key excerpts from Don Tennant's ComputerWorld article of May 8th, and from today's (July 18, 2006) vnunet.com article.

Excerpt from the former
"Microsoft's aim is to help customers navigate the complexities of software licensing and that one of the roles of engagement managers is to assist in that effort by informing customers of a potential licensing risk"

Excerpt from the latter
"In many of the cases, Microsoft notified defendants of the illegal activity and provided information on how the dealer could acquire and distribute genuine software."

In both cases, what else than to spread FUD on customers and therefore squeeze more business out of customers??

As opposed to customers, M$'s FUD with legislative bodies such as the EU can be elucidated from this excerpt from Dawn Kawamoto's CNET article,
"Q: Do you believe Microsoft answered your questions truthfully?
Kroes: Microsoft has claimed that its obligations in the decision are not clear, or that the obligations have changed."
