The post says "south Italian province of Bolzano". Bolzano (Bozen) is one on the northernmost Italian cities, part of Tirol (think lederhosen, not pizza&pasta), and German is the main language there. See Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolzano-Bozen
