You can't simply tell people to stop buying Microsofts crap. It comes bundled with every PC you buy. Most people just use what is on their computer. You know; IE, MSN Messenger, Office, and Solitaire. The stuff that comes preinstalled on a generic Windows system.
Anyways, my prediction is that if Linux becomes good enough, major vendors will start preinstalling it instead of Windows. Resellers could be more profitable.
The big major players are aready competing for linux share, INTEL, AMD, IBM, HP, DELL. IBM even left the PC business to dedicate its energy to Linux and Power/Cell. AMD is the processor of choice for Linux servers. HP and Dell is getting servers out. Intel is tring to gain desktop Linux share.
Linux is opening new opportunities for EVERYONE.
RedHat and Novell is set. There products come bundled on these machines.
Linux wins as all these companies are tring fight for where they stand in the industry.
So far its like this:
IBM: Linux on Power. Marketing/PR powerhouse.
DELL: reseller windows and linux
HP: reseller windows and linux
INTEL: linux desktop push
AMD: linux server processor standard
REDHAT: enterprise class server standard
NOVEL: enterprise class desktop standard
MSFT: headache
